Ever wonder how to become fluent in another language quickly? Step one: buy a ticket somewhere foreign. Step two: buy a language book. Step three: enjoy! Traveling is the number one way to learn a new language. You are submerged in another culture, another language, and basically, another world.
Do your research on the country that you will be travelling to, so that you will be aware of what to expect. I suggest visiting Quebec, or if you’re really ready for an adventure, Paris. French is our official second language in Canada. Why not strengthen your creative thinking and develop unique skills that will enhance your career choice? You will pick up the language far more quickly when you are around it constantly.
If you wish to teach yourself and your family a new language while staying local, try writing on a piece of paper what certain objects are. Example: “chaise” means “chair” in French. Try using flip cards with the children and make it into a game. Adults often try to learn language in a contrived way. Most people, for example, can recite the verbs in French – je suis, tu es, il est, elle est, nous sommes, voues êtes, etc. Yet, they find it much more difficult to speak French naturally when they visit France. When people immerse themselves in a language like children, through play and exploration, they can learn a language quickly and easily. So the more we become child-like in language learning, the easier it becomes.
