We live in a period where everything is about aesthetics whether it be fashion or interior design. But have we realized how correlated both these industries are?

Frequently designers look for inspiration through architecture and decor to come up with inspiration for their next runway collection. Like fashion, the interior design keeps changing whether it be trends, colour, texture, and silhouette. Some of the key factors that are mutual in the design process of both industries are what’s fascinating about the similarities. Let’s review some...

Mood boards

The first step and my favourite in the design process for fashion and interiors is creating a mood board. A mood board allows you to put thoughts & inspiration and convey them through pictures. It is this step where colour, texture, pattern, texts, and prints are developed before a collection is made. It may be a simple board of pictures but quite an important step to showcase the design direction of a runway collection or an interior space just like a piece of the puzzle!

Colour

An important element in the design process, colour choices sets the entire tone for any theme. Colour in design has the power to bring out emotion and affect the overall visualization.

Texture

One of the factors in the design process which can be felt through touch is texture. Additionally, a 3D design can be soft, smooth, velvety, matt, fuzzy, glossy, or even prickly. It creates a layered visual look.

Pattern

The 2D design element of any illustration which gives life and intensity is a pattern. Ironically, patterns are the feature that can help create the mood and can control the direction by the structure of the pattern.
