Like any other ever evolving industry, the fashion world is like any cycle of change – constant. Take a peek at the world of fashion from two sides: first from the individuals behind the scenes to what they create before your very own eyes, debuted on a worldwide landscape.

The Business of Fashion:

Hermès

It was just a few weeks ago when the Birkin creating brand announced that their womenswear designer, the persona behind Hermès’ clean cut runway creations, Christophe Lemaire would take his final bow in the month of October this year. Whilst replacing him must have been a task, it seems Hermès has found a fitting replacement in the hands of Nadege Vanhee-Cybulski whom although not as infamous amongst fashion spectators, served previously as womenswear design director at ‘The Row’. Representing an icon brand, we are excited for Nadege to debut her first collection for March 2015.

Net-a-Porter

The world renowned online retailer that defined electronic luxury purchasing shall bid farewell to their chief executive officer of ten years, Mark Sebba as he steps down from his position to continue on as a non-executive director. For now, no word on who is to fill his rather large shoes and take control of not only http://www.net-a-porter.com/ but branches http://www.mrporter.com/ and http://www.theoutnet.com/.  We wish Mr. Sebba all the best with his future endeavours.

Nordstrom

As we yearn for the years to quicken so we can live in a city where Nordstrom exists, 2016 awaits the replacement for Sears in the Toronto Eaton Centre. Whilst we anticipate, Nordstrom continues to mark their July catalogue featuring disabled models – something that is not very common amongst other mainstream beauty or fashion advertisement campaigns. So we applaud Nordstrom for carrying on their beautiful tradition, seventeen years in the running.

Lida Baday

Toronto based renowned and two time recipient of the City of Toronto’s designer of the year award Lida Baday who has too been a member of the fashion community for over thirty years, has decided to say goodbye to the her days of designing and wrapping up her business; she states that her spring 2014 collection will be her last. We thank Lida for her influential persona and creations and cherish her accomplishments as she departs.

Fall 2014: Runway

As always, the fall 2014 collection was breathtaking, from the introductions to vibrant wool fabrics to the delicate sheer chiffons, the range was magnificent.

Bright Lights

Esteemed fashion houses including the likes of Dior and Balmain premiered vibrant shades of emeralds, canary yellows and deep orange variating between ready-to-wear structured dressed to crisp coats. Each ensemble tactfully paired with another piece of a variant hue with a similar undertone. Not only is the ‘one colour, different shades’ technique a winner on the runway, but being debuted by bloggers and fashionistas alike. Watch out fall 2015, we can’t wait to ditch the darker hues for some brighter ensembles.

Surely Sheer

Though sheer has been the talk of the town for many seasons now, we just cannot get enough! Some more subtle than others, designers Emilio Pucci and Donna Karan exhibited embroidered beauties whilst Alexander McQueen opts for sheer panelling. The whimsical appearance of diaphanous gowns on the runway is magical and perfection for the transition between summer 2014 to fall 2014 collections.

Sweater Weather

Safe to say, the arrival of fall opens closets to cable knits and cashmeres and with wool making its mark on the runway, we are good to stay in knitted attire all day, every day! Between Lanvin and The Row, the natural shaded sweater/trouser combo variants in texture and weight, prime to add to or simplify!
