Mary McDonald is a Los Angeles-based award winning interior designer. She is the international star of Bravo TV’s “Million Dollar Decorators” series and is consistently ranked as one of House Beautiful’s “Top 100 Designers.”
Mary’s interior style combines old-world elegance with a modern sensibility resulting in a fearless iconic style. She is able to blend her love of Chinoiserie with colour and bold patterns. Her work has been featured in major national publications and featured endlessly on the web. Her work includes the refurbishment of Buster Keaton’s legendary villa, the overhaul of the Luxe Hotel in Bel Air and the Monika Chiang retail boutique in Soho.
A few tips about adding a little something special to an interior from Mary herself:
– Add an asymmetrical touch – pairing very symmetrical elements with something that is asymmetrical
– Pair bold patterns – its important to have the exact same weight of the colours and patterns on the bed and the wallpaper to balance each other out
– Squeeze in a window seat – this can be added to areas with extra space and it creates a cozy place to sit
She had released her first book called MARY MCDONALD: INTERIORS, The Allure of Style. Another book is in the works and due to release in 2015. Her first fabric & trim collection for F. Schumacher & Co. launched in Spring 2013 to great success along with an extensive rug line for Patterson, Flynn and Martin. She continues to add new designs each season to her lighting collection for Robert Abbey in tandem while working on projects in New York, Utah, Florida and California. Her debut furniture collection with Chaddock Home is set to launch in April of this year at the High Point market.
